We are learning about famous explorers. Students had the choice of filling out an Explorer profile, creating a wanted poster, writing a journal entry as that explorer, or preparing a monologue to either perform live or use flipgrid. The students who chose the flipgrid option can access it with this link.

This week, we finished the gummy bear lab. We started pendulums (swingers), trying to see if mass, length of string or release point can change the number of swings. We found out that the shorter the string, the more swings. The mass or release point did not make a difference. Next week, our science involves tin foil, water, and mass.

Otto and Wagenman students have been working together in Science to explore the Scientific Method. We have completed two experiments to test variables, while following the six steps and recording information like scientists. First, we learned that practice does improve speed on a Finger Maze. Then, we explored the idea of whether girls or boys have better balance on one leg. Tomorrow, we will set up a gummy bear lab to test how different solutions change the size, color and consistency of gummy worms. The students have learned about controlled experiments, isolating variables, and conducting multiple trials. Stay tuned for the results of our gummy bear lab.

Today, we used a new site, TodaysMeet, to have an online discussion with a 7th/8th grade class in Missouri. Our focus was on relating the Bill of Rights to issues of today. The link to our room is now closed, but stay tuned for some pictures and a reflection of our experience. Happy Constitution Day everyone!
